Curriculum for Adobe Premiere Beginning Video & Sound Editing Course

• This curriculum is based on the basics of video and sound editing and the combination of the two in process of editing a short film using Adobe Premiere soft ware.

• The students of this course will go through twenty three lessons in which they will learn everything from uploading raw footage and sound to putting a short film on a DVD and every thing in between.

• In this class the students will not only learn the technical aspects of the editing process but the effect it has on the material they are editing including a thorough discussion on style and art form and the proper application for the appropriate subject material i.e. documentation, entertainment, instructional and other footage.

• In this process the students will start with footage and sound that the teacher will provide to the students on a continual basis and will differ for from lesson to lesson.

• At the end of the course each student will have a short film on DVD in which they have applied the lesson they have learned in editing over the course period composed of   footage provided by the teacher in one of the earlier lessons or from footage they provide themselves.

• Each film will then be critiqued by the class and the teacher or teachers on an individual basis.

• Upon completion of the course the students will be given a certificate of completion in an Adobe Premiere Video and Sound editing and a copy of the DVD they have created in the class.

• All rights and usage of the film and the footage from which it was edited will remain in copyright to the person or persons who have provided it to the class.

Lesson Plan

Video Editing Lessons:

• Uploading raw footage, formatting different media for optimum quality and usage.
• Organizing your footage, labeling and separating your clips into separate bins and folders in proper order and arrangement
• Trimming and selection of clips, after labeling and separation the clips then need to be trimmed of any excess footage and then a selection of the clips must be made for timeline application
• Timeline application, dragging your selected clips to the timeline and moving them into place for consistency
• Cutting down, the process of eliminating and or arrangement of clips on time line after initial cut
• Transitions, fades dissolves and wipes as well as other transitions from clip to clip
• Titles, application of and placement of titles and credits in accordance with the film
• Visual effects, adjusting the look of the clips with multiple effects such as color correction, contrast, and brightness
• Finishing the film,  review and critique of film and editing and making any changes necessary
• Formatting film for intended media, after the film is finished burning it to DVD disc and or uploading it to a website and the necessary formatting involved

Sound Editing Lessons:

• Uploading sound clips from external device, formatting the clips for the appropriate usage and quality.
• Organization of uploaded clips into appropriate bins for use in conjunction with video
• Timeline placement and editing sound to fit video clips by matching the organized audio clips to the original raw audio from the video.
• Trimming, check matching clips against video footage and trimming any excess sound material.
• Tracking, level checking all the clips so they fit in the overall sound scheme of the footage i.e. lowering and raising volume in accordance with the video footage.
• Ambience, adding the appropriate ambient sound for the video clips such as street noise, nature sounds, room sound, etc.
• Sound tracking, adding music to the audio in the appropriate areas and matching the overall sounds cape of the video.
• Dialogue, adding externally recorded dialogue or dubbing to the existing audio and matching it up with the video.
• Off Camera Sound, checking and arranging the appropriate sound to the cuts of video that do not visually register the sound i.e. dishes clanking, birds chirping, doors closing, etc.
• Transitions, fading in and out on cuts in the audio in accordance with the video footage.
• Sound Effects, adding any additional sound effects to the original audio that are desired such as gun shots, car crashes, chainsaws, etc.
• Formatting audio for appropriate media usage and leveling tracks for usage on the web or DVD disc.
